THE TECH
THE TECH will hopefully enlighten rather than confuse
The aim is to explain Mattress Technology without bias
Specification Sheets rarely disclose adequate mattress data
This makes it near impossible to compare mattresses
Whether a deliberate ploy to avoid comparisons is debatable
Little has changed since Pocketed Coils were patented in 1900

Foams and Fabrics have improved performance
Latex or Rubber has been introduced with mixed success
Features have been added but in most cases offer little benefit
In 1966 Viscous Elastic or Memory Foam was developed
SPRING SYSTEMS
The underlying support of a mattress - or the Firmness
It is either Pocketed Coil or Continuous Spring

POCKETED COIL

Widely considered the best choice for a main mattress
Individual coils are wrapped in a fabric casing
Pocketed Coils provide better pressure relief
They limit motion and reduce partner disturbance
They offer better support to your body than continuous springs
Pocketed Coils were patented in 1900 by James Marshall

CONTINUOUS SPRING

Suitable for kids, spare rooms or the budget minded
A single piece of wire is twisted to form a continuous spring
Bonnell Spring, Open Coil, Offset Coil, Continuous Spring
They are the same in function and all suffer the same issues
Transfer of motion and bounce is the main concern
Lower price and less weight than a Pocketed Coil mattress

MATTRESS TICKING
Ticking is a tightly woven heavy duty outer fabric of a mattress
Quilting Foam and Fibre Fill are pattern stitched with the Fabric
Together they form the Mattress Quilting or Mattress Ticking
Fibre Fill is usually between the Fabric and the Quilting Foam
Quilt stitching creates a contoured surface to disperse heat
Our Fibre Fill is sandwiched between Quilting Foam layers
Fibre Fill is often excessive to enhance Showroom Feel
It creates a false plushness - like sleeping on a cloud
Less volume of Fibre Fill has a harsher less plush feel
It is a also a better representation of the true feel or Home Feel
Excessive volume of any fill will cause indentation issues
